Hello friends of ORA New Zealand
‘Grace is love that cares and stoops and rescues.’ John Stott
Christmas time is nearly here, a time to give thanks… and we at ORA say a big THANK YOU to all those who have volunteered in the ORA office over 2014, given towards ORA projects or sponsorship this year, and to those of you who pray for the work of ORA worldwide. You are all truly making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children, bringing them hope.
The ultimate vision of ORA is to empower communities to care for their own orphaned and vulnerable children. An ‘orphan’ is defined by the United Nations as a child who has ‘lost one or both parents’. There are an estimated 153 million orphans in the world today:
• 34.5 million have lost only their mother
• 101 million have lost only their father
• 17.8 million have lost both parents
In New Zealand we wouldn’t call a child an orphan who has lost one parent, however in developing countries, the loss of one parent can significantly worsen the poverty a family faces, eroding more of a child’s hope. Could you take an orphan into your home this Christmas and bring change and hope through a one off gift or regular sponsorship?
‘Grace is love that cares and stoops and rescues.’ I pray we all find time in the busyness of the Christmas season to reflect on the grace shown to us all, and the love and care we can show to others.
